Action ordered against hill cutters in Khagrachhari

Move follows Daily Star report

State Minister for Environment and Forest Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman yesterday ordered the authorities concerned to take stern action against hill plunderers in Khagrachhari district. The move followed yesterday's Daily Star report titled 'Hill cutting rampant again in Khagrachhari'. Deputy Secretary of Environment and Forest Ministry Nazrul Islam Khan told The Daily Star correspondent through cell phone that the state minister for environment and forest instructed the concerned authorities including the secretary of environment ministry, director of Department of Environment (DoE), Chittagong Division, and Khagrachhari deputy commissioner to take stern action. Admitting the matter, Nazmul Islam, director of Department of Environment, Chittagong, said he requested the deputy commissioner to take action in this regard. Deputy Commissioner AKM Khairul Alam said he has already sent Matiranga upazila nirbahi officer to investigate the matter and take lawful action against hill plunderers.
