Nine out of 37 runners face cases

Nine out of 37 runners for four posts of upazila chairmen in Magura district face cases while at least three others concealed their earlier criminal records in their affidavits submitted to the election office (EO), official records say. Those still facing cases are Abdul Majid Biswas, Mian Mahmudul Gani, Sayed Ali Karim, Ohidur Rahman Tipu, Md. Ali Akbar, Abu Nasir Bablu, Md. Altaf Hossain, Abdul Mannan and Md. Harun-ar-Rashid. The four others who concealed criminal records include Muktadir Ali Biswas and Mohammad Nazimuddin. Of the 37 runners, eight passed LLB examination, seven are Master Degree holders and 10 are graduates. Of the chairman candidates, 23 belong to Awami League, nine BNP adherents and five are independent runners. Another one is a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami.
