Punish Shibir men for using mosque for politics

Leaders of Rajshahi University (RU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday met RU acting Vice Chancellor Prof Mamnunul Keramat at his office and demanded punishment of the Islami Chhatra Shibir men who held political meeting at the university central mosque. On Saturday evening, RU Islami Chhatra Shibir activists accompanied by a large number of outsiders held a meeting at the university mosque, violating rules of the institution. RU Shibir also formed their university unit committee in presence of Shibir central leaders there. BCL RU unit President Ibrahim Hossain Moon led around one hundred BCL activists who met RU acting VC Prof Mamnunul Keramat at his office and demanded immediate steps to stop use of the university central mosque and mosques at residential halls for political purposes. The BCL leaders also told the vice chancellor that Shibir gathered a large number of outsiders in boys' halls and threatened BCL activists to leave the campus. They requested him to take necessary steps against the Shibir outsiders. Later the BCL leaders told newsmen that the acting vice chancellor assured them of investigating the matter and taking immediate action against the responsible people. Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Progressive Students Alliance and pro-JSD Chhatra League at RU also condemned Shibir for holding their political meeting at the university mosque. They urged the university authorities to take steps to stop use of mosque for political purposes and punishment of the responsible people. Meanwhile, BCL activists Saturday midnight drove away Shibir activists from Mother Bux Hall and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall of RU. Later, leaders of BCL and Shibir from others halls rushed to Mother Bux and arranged reinstating Shibir and BCL activists at different rooms of the hall through mutual understanding.
