Hasina promised to make me president, Ershad says
Jatiya party chief HM Ershad yesterday said Sheiakh Hasina gave him ward that he will be made president any time during the tenure of the present government.
“Though president's power is limited in a parliamentary form of government, it is an honour and I want to die with this honour”, he said at a post poll review meeting with party men and the elite at Kurigram. With district JP president and lawmaker Md. Mostafizur Rahman in the chair, the meeting was addressed by among others, party presidium member Moshiur Rahman Ranga, former MP Golam Habib Dulal, district JP secretary Abdar Hossen Bulu and party leader Maj (retd) Abdus Salam. It was held at Kurigram Old Post Office ground.
Reviewing poll results, Ershad said JP candidates won in all divisions in the country while BNP candidates lost.
So, it has been proved that JP will be stronger in the next election. He claimed that JP will bag 50 to 60 seats in the next election.
He said he will keep his poll pledges made to people of the region. A bridge will be built on Dharla river in Kulaghat in Kurigram, pipeline gas will be supplied to Rangpur, new industries will be set up and Rangpur will be upgraded to a division, Ershad reiterated.
