<i>At last doctor held to depose in court</i>
At last police has been able to arrest former resident medical officer (RMO) of Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital Dr Md Saiful Islam, who had who faced 36 warrants of arrest after failure to appear before the court to give evidence in over a hundred cases including those for murder and rape.
After arresting Dr Saiful from Moulvibazar town on Tuesday, police sent him to jail.
During his service period as RMO of Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital from August 2000 to October 2002, Dr Md Saiful Islam became witness of more than a hundred cases including for rape and murder, police said.
Later he was transferred to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.
During the last five years, Dr Md Saiful Islam failed to attend the court to record his evidence according to legal proceeding and consequently, over one hundred cases have remained pending in the court, police said.
Meantime, 36 warrants of arrest were issued against Dr Saiful and on December 1 last year, Moulvibazar District and Sessions Judge Md Zahurul Haque ordered Moulvibazar Superintendent of Police to arrest Dr Saiful at any cost, Assistant Superintend of Police (Sadar circle) Ashrafuzzaman told this correspondent.
