2 BNP leaders among 11 charge-sheeted in Satkhira

Eleven people including two BNP leaders have been charge-sheeted in the sensational Dhandia Union Parishad (UP) chairman Arifuzzaman Chanchal murder case. Investigation Officer (IO) Kazi Abu Daud, also officer-in-charge (OC) of Patkelghata Police Station, submitted the charge sheet with chief judicial magistrate's court here yesterday. Other charge-sheeted accused are Humayun Kabir, Firoz Khan and Sudhanya Saha of village Khordo in Kalaroa upazila, Nur Islam and his wife Zobeda Khatun and Mahitosh Hajra of village Sarulia and Shainoor Rahman of village Dhandia and Abdul Malek Lalu of village Senergati in Tala upazila and Rabiul Islam Sardar of village Shankarpur in Jhhikargachha upazila and Shawkat Ali of village Joypur in Manirampur upazila in Jessore, court sources said. Of the accused, Dhandia union Juba Dal president Ruhul Quddus, Dhandia union BNP general secretary Abdul Malek Lalu, Mahitosh Hajra and Nur Islam are absconding, they said Dhandia UP chairman Arifuzzaman Chanchal, son of Asir Uddin of village Sharsha in Tala upazila, also a member of district BNP convening committee, was abducted and strangled by the criminals on October 12, 2008.
