Why this disrespect?

Sohel Ahmed, Dhanmondi, Dhaka
As a nation why are we so underdeveloped, poor and uneducated, why does the country has hundreds and thousands of problems? Why is there no discipline in our everyday life, why are we still an underdeveloped country despite being independent for 38 years? I guess we all know the answer. We have forgotten to respect each other. The culture of respect did prevail in our lives 20-30 ago when the students used to respect their teachers, when the children used to respect their parents, when the young used to respect their elders, when the politicians used to respect the people and last but not the least the rich used to respect the poor. Today we as a country see indiscipline in each and every aspect of our lives. When we go out from our homes the first thing which we all notice is the car owners/drivers having no respect for the rickshaw pullers, the bus driver has no respect for the smaller vehicles and all sorts of vehicle plying the road have no respect at all for the traffic constable and the traffic signals. The politicians do not respect the people's verdict and on top of that they do not respect the other politicians who have a different view. As a Bangladeshi citizen, I would like to see my future countrymen shunning the culture of disrespect.
