5 outlaws held in abduction case

2 children yet to be rescued

Police have taken into custody five outlaws, suspecting their involvement in abduction of eight-year-old schoolboy Chayan Bairagi for ransom of Tk 10 lakh on early hours of Friday from his paternal house at Bhultia village under Dumuria upazila of Khulna district. The arrestees -- Nimai, 36, Bishu, 24, Hamid, 34, Sultan, 42, and Monir, 25 are linked with outlawed New Biplobi Communist Party and they were mentioned as suspects of the abduction case filed on Friday by Chayan's father Kartick Bairagi, said Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman. Bablu Narayan Chandra Chanda, lawmaker elected from Khulna-5 (Dumuria-Phultala) constituency, is monitoring police action to rescue the victim. Meanwhile, Khadija Khatun Moyna who was abducted on January 11 from Dorshutia village under Keshabpur upazila of Jessore district could not be rescued as of yesterday afternoon despite combing operations by police. Moyna is a student of Keshabpur Darul Ulum Mahila Madrasa and daughter of Shahidul Sardar.
