RU hall provost's room ransacked

Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), yesterday ransacked the provost's room of Rajshahi University (RU) Habibur Rahman Hall demanding seat for their activists. Chhatra League activists placed their demand to provost Prof Saiful Islam Faruki at his office. They also demanded of him to drive out non-students and outsiders from the hall. They pointed out to him that several Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists are living at the hall illegally for the last several years. At one stage, a serious altercation ensued between them. Later, Chhatra League activists ransacked his room and threatened for launching a tougher agitation against him if he fails to drive away outsider JCD activists without further delay. As proctor rushed to the hall with police, they left the hall. When contacted, Chhatra League president Taimur Faruk alleged that the provost had misbehaved with them. He also denied to allot 'legal' seats to them. The provost gave shelter to non-student JCD activists at the hall, he alleged further. Provost Prof Saiful Islam Faruki told newsmen that unruly students had been demanding seats at the hall illegally. He also claimed no outsiders are residents of the hall.
