Outlaw held, arms seized

Police arrested a top cadre of outlawed new Biplobi Communist Party (NBCP) and recovered firearms from Bakhoi village in Kumarkhali upazila in the district on Friday night. The arrestee, Akkas Ali, 40, of Bongram in Khoksa upazila in the district, is accused in several cases including for murder, police said. Tipped off, a team from Khoksa police raided the house of Alam at Bakhoi village in Kumrkhali upazila at about 11:00pm and arrested Akkas. After interrogation, police recovered a rifle and four bullets from under a pile of straw of the house. Police recovered several arms including an AK-47 rifle from Akkas' house at Bongram in Khoksa upazila last year and Akkas was absconding since then, police said, adding that he was trying to reorganise NBCP after killing of its chief Akdil Hossain on February 1 last year. Police was interrogating Akkas as of filing of this report at about 4:30pm yesterday.
