The cabinet and experience
Everybody is all praise for the youthful cabinet that the new prime minister, Sheikh Hasina has presented. We also praise her for her courage, swiftness and worldliness. She has not turned into a Devi aloft beyond the common people. Her respect shown to Zillur Rahman, the elderly politician, is remarkable.
People are generally happy that the new cabinet is not tainted by allegation of corruption. With the sweeping allegation of corruption against politicians, perception about them, it seems, was the only evidence since the government of the day had to free those arrested hastily. Those who are convicted and jailed were tried under emergency laws. Sure, that does not make them saints but a perception of impropriety lurks large to their benefit.
To meet the expectation of the people, the new prime minister inducted a youthful inexperienced cabinet. But there is the need to blend vigour and virtue with experience. The more perfect the blending. the better the result.
In spite of talent and vitality, our cricket team is an example of absence of experience. We worked hard to join the Test playing nations. Once there, we hurriedly clipped the old wings only to see failures so far. Grooming was what we did not do.
Our beloved Prophet (PBUH) always consulted his companions and encouraged collective decision. The emphasis was on collective wisdom. As the Prophet of God, he need not consult any mortal soul. He did so to inculcate the practice in his followers who were not prophets. Wisdom comes from experience. If and only if, untainted experience is not available, it is better to go for 'Reformed' experience.
