Teachers, students, officials and employees of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday demanded immediate appointment of a full-fledged vice-chancellor, registrar, proctor, student adviser and key administrative officials for running the university smoothly. They said the academic activities of the university are being hampered due to absence of a full-fledged vice-chancellor, registrar, proctor and key administrative officials. Teachers and general students have expressed their concern over resignation of proctor, nine assistant proctors and student adviser. Proctor Prof Enamul Haque along with nine assistant proctors--Asiara Khatun, Abdul Haque, Mahbubul Islam, Muhammad Ali, Ariful Hassan, Ariful islam, Azizur Rahman, Abdul Wahab and Ashraful Haq-- resigned on January 26 in the wake of demand by several students bodies for their alleged link to JCD and Shibir. Student Adviser Faridul Islam Pintu resigned yesterday. Pinto in his letter said, “ I want to go abroad to do PhD. So I am quitting the job,” Many teachers said the university authorities will be held responsible if any untoward situation is created on the campus in the absence of proctor and student adviser. Mahmudur Rahman, a teacher of the university, said we now feel insecure on the campus following resignation of proctor, assistant proctors and student adviser. He also urged the government to appoint a full-fledged vice-chancellor, proctor and student adviser as early as possible.
