Sundarbans Day observed

People of Satkhira yesterday took out a procession, formed a human chain and held a discussion in the district town in observance of the Sundarbans Day. The discussion on the world's largest mangrove forest was held at Satkhira Pourasava auditorium with its joint convenor Mostafizur Rahman Ujjal in the chair. Speakers urged the government to observe the Sundarbans Day at state level to create awareness among the people to protect the forest. They said the Sundarbans is not only a source of revenue earning but also as a shield to protect south-western region from onslaught of natural disasters. They urged the government to take necessary steps to save the Sundarbans from looters, poachers, criminals and corrupt officials.
