BCL leader held for tender scam

Police yesterday arrested Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) district unit Vice-President Tofa Hossain Montu for attempt to resist dropping of tender schedule for a construction work at the office of Thakurgaon Superintendent of Police. “When contractor Gopal Chandra came to the office to drop tender schedule for a Tk10 lakh construction work, Montu and his accomplices tried to prevent him today this [Monday] noon,” Thakurgaon SP Abu Saleh Mohhammad Golam Mahmud Shah said. Ordered by the SP, police arrested Chhatra League leader Montu. Meanwhile a tense situation is prevailing in the town as clashes between the activists of Chhatra League and Jubo League on Sunday left six people injured. The clash followed auction for a motorbike at the SP office. Police have been deployed at different places in the town to stave off further incidents. When contacted, Water Resource Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen told this correspondent that he ordered police to arrest people responsible for creating unstable situation in the town, irrespective of their political identity.
