Samo Adhikar terms CHT Commission role 'biased'

Our Correspondent, Khagrachhari
Parbatya Chattagram Samo Adhikar Andolon, an organisation of Bangalee settlers in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), yesterday strongly criticised the 'biased' role of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Commission team for not meeting its leaders during their visit here Friday. Samo Adhikar leaders said the commission had earlier promised to meet them at Khagrachhari Parjaton Motel at 7:30 on the day. "We waited at the reception room of Khagrachhari Parjaton Motel until midnight but in vain," said Khagrachhari district unit secretary of Samo Adhikar Mohammad Shahaz Uddin. Samo Adhikar Adviser and Khagrachhari Pourasava Mayor Mohammad Joynal Abedin said the commission members talked only with indigenous leaders at local Chandanpatti Community Centre. "This proves that the commission is working for indigenous people, not for Bangalees". Meanwhile, no journalist was allowed to talk to the commission members during their visit. However, a member of CHT Commission, seeking anonymity, said they learnt the real situation in CHT after talking with Bangalee settlers on the spots. 'This is the reason of our less interest in talking with Samo Adhikar leaders," he said.
