Dockers threaten fast unto death at Mongla
Dock workers at Mongla port have threatened to begin fast unto death from February 25 if Dock Workers' Management Board Abolition Ordinance is not repealed by February 24.
They made the demand at a rally on Mongla Sramik Sangha office premises on Friday.
Presided over by Abdur Rashid Talukder, President of Mongla Dock Workers' Sramik Sangha, the rally was addressed, among others, by Chairman of Mongla Upazila Parishad Idris Ali Joarder, General Secretary of Sramik Sangha AKM Shahabuddin, Babul Khan, Shajahan Molla, Omar Ali and Abdul Huq Gazi.
Speakers termed the ordinance anti-people as it was made in the interest of a coterie of stevedores.
They urged the government to repeal the ordinance in order to maintain peace at the port.
