Rangpur University classes to start from March 20

Classes will start at the newly-established Rangpur University from March 20 after its inauguration by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid. The decision was taken at a Syndicate meeting of the university held at its temporary campus here yesterday. The meeting also decided to raise a Tk 8 lakh fund for Begum Rokeya Stipend for disadvantaged students of the university. It also approved employment of 12 teachers of six subjects in three faculties. Appointment letters would be issued to qualified teachers very soon so that classes can be started from March 20, said VC Dr Lutfar Rahman. As many as 300 students in six subjects including BBA and Computer Science got admitted into the university. Rangpur University has been set up temporarily on the campus of Rangpur Teachers' Training College. About 70 acres of unused land of Rangpur Carmichael College has been taken to set up the university. Classes would continue at the temporary campus till construction of buildings on the main campus. Members present at the Syndicate meeting were former vice chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University Prof Amirul Islam Chowdhury, former VC of National University Prof Moudud Elahi, Carmichael College principal Deependra Nath Das, Rangpur University registrar Prof Alauddin Miah and Rangpur Dinajpur Rural Service (RDRS) director Dr Shamsuzzaman were present in the syndicate meeting with Vice Chancellor Dr. Lutfar Rahman in the chair.
