Dinajpur interns on strike

The interns at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital yesterday began an indefinite strike protesting assault on one of their fellows allegedly by a patient at the hospital on Friday night. Hospital sources said Md Rahat Chowdhury, son of Abdur Rashid Chowdhury of Dhantola village under Bochaganj upazila of the district was admitted to the hospital with pain in the abdomen at around 9:00pm. As no doctor visited Rahat until 11:20pm, he became angry and assaulted on-duty intern Nazrul Islam Konak. Immediately after the incident, Rahat fled the hospital. Demanding arrest of the person involved, the interns started an indefinite strike at 12:20pm yesterday, causing sufferings to the patients. Amir Ali, resident medical officer (RMO) of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, filed a general diary (GD) with Dinajpur Police Station yesterday.
