10 houses in Comilla gutted, 20 injured

At least 10 houses were gutted rendering about 70 people homeless in a big fire at Oddha village in Barura upazila in the early hours of Saturday, locals said. About 20 people including a fire fighter were injured, they said. Twelve of them were admitted to Barura Health Complex. The loss has been estimated at about Tk 4 lakh, Fire Service and Civil Defence officials said. But villagers claimed the loss to be around Tk 10 lakh. The fire originated from a kitchen of Anwar Hossain at about 4:00am when most of the residents were sleeping, villagers said. Soon the fire engulfed the adjacent areas. Being informed, two fire fighters rushed to the spot from Barura upazila town and extinguished fire with the help of locals at about 5:00am.
