6 held in land document theft case

Police on Monday night arrested six people in connection with Kaliganj settlement office theft case. The arrestees are assistant surveyor of the office Abdur Razzak, Guru Pada Basak of Ichchapur village, Tahur Ali alias Kajal of Pirojpur village, Monsur Ali Gazi of Sadpur village, Bahar Ali of Kakshiali village and Monzurul Islam alias Monzur of Bharashimla village under Kaliganj upazila. Police yesterday produced the six before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court that sent them to jail. Sources said a gang of miscreants entered Kaliganj settlement office by breaking open the door on the night of February 8 and took away land documents of Beel Kajla mouza, Nalta mauza and Bathuadanga mouza. Influential people, who grabbed government khas land by preparing false documents, are allegedly involved in the theft, sources added. Police are yet to recover the stolen document. When contacted, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station said they will be able to recover the stolen documents very soon.
