AL activists assault hospital staff

At least 15 nurses and brothers of Patuakhali General Hospital were injured in an attack on them allegedly by two Awami League (AL) activists yesterday morning. AL activists Mahbub Alam alias Roni Mridha and Kamruzzaman Rasel went to the emergency room of the hospital at about 8:30 am with a relative, Ahki, 25, for treatment, police and witnesses said. On-duty doctors and brothers requested them to go to the surgery ward for treatment of their patient. But instead of going to surgery ward they went to the Operation Theatre (OT). When they saw its door closed, they kicked the door of the OT. Some nurses and brothers wanted to know the reason of their anger. But Roni and Rasel assaulted them physically. When staff from other wards came to the scene, they also came under the attack. Later, police arrested Roni and Rasel for their involvement in the untoward incident.
