Food official jailed for corruption

A court here on Thursday sentenced a sub-Inspector of Bagerhat Food department to 14 years imprisonment (SI) for misappropriating 321 tonnes of rice and wheat. Judge Abdul Aziz Khalifa of Khulna Divisional Special Court also fined the convict Abdul Gani Sardar Tk 52 lakh, in default, he is suffer three more years in jail. A case was filed against Gani with Rampal Police Station by now defunct bureau of anti-corruption, Bagerhat, on March 31,2002 of misappropriating 321 tonnes of rice and wheat.
