21 AL men sued in Barisal
A case has been lodged with Mehendiganj Police Station against 21 leaders and activists of the local unit of Awami League following death of a BCL man during AL factional clash on Saturday.
After the incident, Barisal district unit of the ruling party suspended the activities of its upazila unit.
Local UP chairman and AL leader Nizamuddin filed the case on Saturday night accusing 21 AL man, including upazila AL Secretary Kamaluddin Khan, of killing BCL activist Riazuddin Palash.
Palash was seriously injured during a clash between two factions of AL Mehendiganj upazila unit and succumbed to his injuries on way to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
One faction is led by upazila AL President Sardar Maheb Hossain while the other by Maj (retd) Nasir. Palash was a supporter of Mehab.
All the accused belong to the Nasir faction and police could not arrest any of them as of filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
Meanwhile, the enquiry committee of the Election Commission (EC) has postponed its visit to Mehendiganj.
The committee was due to arrive at Mehendiganj yesterday to probe the allegations of clashes and vote rigging allegedly by the supporters of Maheb during Mehendiganj upazila election on January 29.
