BCL Factional Clash
Rajshahi Polytech closed indefinitely
The authorities of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute (RPI) have suspended all classes and examinations for an indefinite period following clashes between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over establishing supremacy on the campus on Monday and the day before.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the academic council on Monday night with Principal Dr Joynal Abedin in the chair.
On Monday, a group of BCL activists, led by Hatem, entered the examination hall of the institute where Nizamuddin, president of BCL RPI unit, was sitting for exam.
They beat up Nizam and hit on the head with hockey stick. The seriously injured BCL president is undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Campus sources said the attack on Nizam was a sequel to Sunday's clash between Hatem and Nizam groups. At least five BCL men belonging to Hatem group were injured during the clash.
Receiving the news of attack on Nizam, his supporters, equipped with hockey sticks and sharp weapons, swooped on their rivals and ousted them from the campus.
