Reopen RU soon
Teachers, students urge authorities
Teachers and students of Rajshahi University (RU) have called upon the authorities of the institution to reopen it immediately in the greater interest of education.
Students alleged that they will face more sessions jam due to this sudden closure of the university on March 13 following the violent clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS).
All higher educational institutions in Rajshahi city, including Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet), Rajshahi Medical College, Rajshahi College, Rajshahi New Degree College, City College, Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute and Institute of Health Technology, were also shut down for an indefinite period following the RU clash.
Student organisations of the university, including BCL, Progressive Students' Alliance, Bangladesh Chhatra Moitree and Bangladesh Chhatra Union, staged separate demonstrations at Zero point in the city on different dates and urged the authorities to reopen the institution and its halls immediately.
"This unscheduled shutdown will create another session jam as we have already lost two valuable years of our academic life," said Mamun Qayum, a student of mass communication and journalism department.
Prof Zahid Hassan, a teacher of commerce faculty, said this unexpected closure will increase sessions jam in the university.
Different professional bodies in Rajshahi urged the authorities to reopen the university at the earliest.
Local businessmen at Binodpur Bazar and Rajshahi city also demanded immediate reopening of the university in the interests of common people of Rajshahi.
RU Vice Chancellor Prof Abdus Salam told newsman that the university authorities are eager to reopen the university.
