8 hurt as Jubo League rivals clash in Barisal

At least eight people were injured, one by bullets, during a clash between two factions of Jubo League over capture of a disputed land in Banaripara town under Barisal district yesterday. The injured are Jubo League leader Babul Akon and activists Liton Munshi, Milon Munshi, Kismat, Liton Khan, Jasim and Mohsin. Police arrested Mawlad Hossain Sana, central Jubo League leader and Banaripara upazila vice- chairman, and recovered a gun and 10 bullets from his possession. Sub-Inspector (SI) Afzal Hossain, acting officer-in-charge of Banaripara Police Station, told The Daily Star that Babul Akon, and Mawlad Hossain Sana, had an altercation over possession of a disputed land at Banaripara bus stand at about 1:30pm. At one stage, Sana shot Babul in the legs and hands and left the scene. On information, police rushed to the spot, rescued Babul and sent him to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in a critical condition. As Babul's men made an attack on the house of Sana, his supporters opened fire on their rivals that led to a fierce clash between the two factions of local Jubo League.
