3 Jamaat men held in two districts

Police yesterday arrested three Jamaat men in Gopalganj and Thakurgaon on charges of planning subversive activities and selling controversial books. Ameer of Muksudpur upazila Jamaat-e-Islami in Gopalganj Md Shahidul Islam alias Jahangir Mollah was arrested allegedly for planning subversive activities. Vice principal of Lohair Fazil madrasa, Shahidul hails from Rakhalgati village in Nagarkanda upazila under Faridpur district, reports a correspondent. Muksudpur police said, Shahidul held secret meetings with 50 to 60 Shibir cadres at his father-in-laws house on March 19 night and March 20 morning. Police raided the house on March 20 but Shahidul and Shibir cadres managed to flee. Shahidul was arrested yesterday from the house under Section 54 and produced in Gopalganj judicial magistrate's court. The court sent him to jail. Our correspondent from Thakurgaon adds: Two Jamaat activists were arrested for selling controversial books at Collegepara under Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon. The arrestees are Shujan,18, and his father Zahedul Islam, a fourth class employee of Water Development Board, Thakurgaon. Police and locals said the two were selling a book named “Jamaat ebong Jammat nettritter biruddhey judd-haporadher obhijog mittha o uddesha pronodita” published by Jamaat-e-Islami.
