15 sued for '71 killing in Rajshahi

Son of a person martyred in the liberation war lodged a case with a Rajshahi court yesterday accusing 15 people for killing of his father Taher Mondol, a freedom fighter, during 1971 Liberation War. The court of judicial magistrate Rejaul Karim took the case of Abed Ali Mondol into cognisance and ordered Bagmara police to investigate the matter and take legal action. The accused are Kutub Ali, Abdul Aziz, Shahidul Haque, Abdul Hamid, Nurul Islam, Nur Mohammad, Ayub Ali, Saber Ali, Afsar Ali, Ansar Ali, Abdul Mazid Ali, Abdur Rahman, Sajuna Ali, Abdus Salam and Abdul Mazid. The plaintiff alleged that the accused are infamous war criminals and some of them are members of Jamaat-e-Islami. The accused attacked village Islabari on the night of August 25 in 1971 and killed several people including Taher Mondol. Besides, the attackers looted houses and abused women, he said. Two other similar cases of murders in Mohonpur upazila are also under investigation.
