Monindra Lal sent to jail on surrender
A court in the port city yesterday sent former Khagrachhari District Council chairman Monindra Lal Tripura to jail after he surrendered before the court for bail in Anupam Tripura murder case.
Judge Shafiqul Karim of the Speedy Trial Tribunal, Chittagong, rejected his bail petition and sent him to jail, court sources said.
Monindra was arrested on October 31 last year while returning to Chittagong from Dhaka.
He was granted bail in the case by Khagrachhari District Court. He had to surrender before the Speedy Trial Tribunal since the case was shifted there.
Khagrachhari District Council member Anupam Tripura, brother of Additional Inspector General of Police Naba Bikram Kishore Tripura, was murdered at a residential hotel in the capital on July 11 last year.
His wife Alpana Tripura filed a case with Khagrachhari Police Station the following day. Police then arrested six people--Porendra Lal Tripura, Kulnath Boishnob, Shanti Bikash Chakma, Mosharraf Hossain, Awal Gazi and Humayun Kabir--in connection with the murder.
