Freedom fighter Sukurullah committed suicide Monday night as he had no means to bear the expenses of his treatment. Hailing from Razarpath Danga cluster village under Sadar upazila in Panchagarh, Sukurullah, 70, killed himself by hanging from a tree near his house. Wife Fatema Begum said Sukurullah had been suffering from various ailments for long. As he could not bear pain anymore he committed suicide, she said. Sukurullah used to get Tk 900 per month as freedom fighter's allowance, Fatema said, adding it was not enough for family expenditure. Sukurullah was a rickshaw-puller. But after growing old he was unable to continue it. He has two sons and a daughter. His sons are poor hotel boys who could not arrange the treatment money. A few days ago, he was admitted to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital. But seeing no improvement he left the hospital. Panchagarh Upazila Unit Commander of Muktijaddha Sangsad Abdus Sobhan said Sukurullah had been suffering from various health complications for a long time. But he never sought money from anybody for his treatment.
