Rural livelihood fair ends

A three-day 'rural livelihood fair' arranged by NGO Development Wheel on Pogaldigha College ground at Tarakandi in Shahrashabari under Jamalpur district ended yesterday. Earlier on Friday, Prof HKS Arefeen of the Department of Anthropology of Dhaka University, also chairman of Development Wheel, inaugurated the fair as chief guest while Jamalpur Additional District Magistrate Belayath Hossain Talukder, Pogaldigha College Principal Muazzam Hossain, local UP chairman Shamsuddin, and farmer Nazimuddin were present as special guests. Development Wheel Executive Director Shah Abdus Salam presided over the programme. Open discussion on climate change, children's art competition, cultural programme, essay competition on agriculture and Bangladesh, farmers talk on right and responsible use of agro inputs, debate on the use of organic fertiliser, video show on agriculture and socio-economic development Bangladesh marked the three-day programme. Twenty-two stalls displaying products of farmers and rural craftsmen and artistes and water and sanitation programmes were set up in the fair. The fair, aiming at promoting agriculture and biodiversity and creating awareness on climate change, will contribute to sustainable development of rural livelihoods, especially among the char dwellers, said delegates and organisers at the fair.
