17 shops gutted in Jhenidah

Seventeen shops were gutted at Langolebandh bazaar in Shailkupa upazila Sunday night. The fire originated from short circuit at a nearby shop at about 10-30 pm, according to Habibur Rahman, a shop owner. Soon it engulfed the adjacent grocery, medicine and other shops, he said. On information, fire fighters from Shailkupa and Magura rushed to the spot and brought fire under control at about 1:00 am. The loss has been estimated at Tk 60 lakh 60,000, fire brigade sources said. The fire damaged shops owned by Habibur Rahman, Kuddus, Bishwajit, Rezaul Karim and others.
