Minor girl violated, 2 teenagers gang-raped

Three girls including a six-year-old one have been violated in Panchagarh, Rajshahi and Jessore districts. A teenaged girl, abducted from a village in Tentulia upazila on March 14 and confined for 20 days in Panchagarh, was gang-raped by the abductors, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent. As the girl was returning from her friend's house at Mazipara village under Tentulia upazila on March 14, Swapon, Delowar, Kamruzzaman alias Kamu, Shah Alam and Fazlu abducted her and brought her to one Delower's house at Satmera village under Sadar upazila, Tentulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Taharul Islam told this correspondent over cell phone. The boys, who raped her several times during the 20-day confinement, beat her on April 3 and had her get on a BRTC bus after threatening her not to inform police. Returning home, the girl told her parents the horrific story of her torture and they went to Upazila Nirbahi Officer Monjur Alam Prodhan and Upazila Chairman Muktarul Haque Muku to seek justice. They suggested filing a case against the accused. On Tuesday, the victim filed an abduction and rape case with Tentulia Police Station accusing seven people including Swapon, Delowar, Kamruzzaman alias Kamu, Shah Alam and Fazlu. After her medical test at Panchagarh Sadar Hospital, she gave a statement to a magistrate under Section 164 yesterday. A teenaged girl was gang-raped inside Rajshahi University of Engineering Technology (Ruet) campus on Tuesday night, reports our staff correspondent from Rajshahi. Locals caught two of the rapists -- Rockey, a peon at the office of the councillor of ward No 26 of Rajshahi City Corporation, and Sujon, a resident of Bhadra area in the city -- and handed them over to police yesterday. Two other culprits, Maruf and Sabiul went into hiding, police quoted the two arrestees as saying. The girl, who came to Rajshahi from Dhaka on Tuesday evening, went to the councillor's office for filing a complaint against a person about non-payment of her dues, police said. As the girl tried to meet the councillor, the four youths assured her of recovery of the money and took her to a lonely place near the banana garden on north-east corner inside Ruet campus. There they raped her and left her fainted there. Yesterday morning, locals rescued the girl and took her to the councillor's office. The victim told the councillor that she could recognise Rockey, one of the rapists. Following instruction from the councillor, aggrieved locals searched the nearby areas and caught Rockey and Sujon from their houses. The two were handed over to police and the girl lodged a case with Motihar Police station accusing the four youths. The victim was sent to hospital for medical test and police is looking for the two other accused, Motihar Police Station Officer-in-Charge M Habibur Rahman said. In Benapole, a six-year-old girl was raped at Gavipara village yesterday evening, reports a correspondent from Benapole. Tempting the girl by promising to give her chocolates, Adam Ali, a resident of Gavipara village, took her to a nearby paddy field and raped her, police said. Hearing her scream, people working in the field rushed there, caught Adam Ali and handed him over to police.
