SIT Foundation men sent to jail

Bogra-based NGO Science and Information Technology (SIT) Foundation Chairman Md Abdul Mannan Sarker, his son and SIT Foundation Executive Director ASM Rawshan Kabir Shahin and official of the NGO Mohosin Ali Reza were sent to jail yesterday in connection with a cheating case. Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Ziaur Rahman rejected their bail petitions and sent them to Bogra jail. Earlier seven cases were filed against the SIT Foundation chairman and eight others for cheating job seekers from several districts. Job seeker Pijush Chandra Roy filed a case against Abdul Mannan Sarker, Rawshan Kabir Shahin, Mohosin Ali Reza and Hafizur Rahman Jahangir on 27 April this year for cheating him and embezzling Tk 1.14 lakh and the court issued summon to the accused to appear before the court yesterday. Next date of hearing has been fixed on July 3. At a press conference at Bogra Press Club auditorium a few days ago, several job seekers told local journalists that Abdul Mannan Sarker and his accomplices embezzled Tk 12 crore from about 4,000 job seekers who applied after the accused published advertisements in local newspapers. A couple of years ago, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed three cases for embezzling about Tk 54 lakh against Abdul Mannan Sarker, who is also director of National Academy for Computer Training and Research (NACTAR) under the Ministry of Education.
