Assault on Journos
10 students expelled from Kuet hall
Ten resident students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) have been expelled from their dormitory as probe committee found their involvement in assaulting three journalists.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Nausher Ali formed an eight-member committee on May 6 to investigate the allegations of confining three local journalists in room No 111 of Zahurul Huq Hall of the university and beating up them by a group of students during violent clash on the campus on May 4.
The journalists, who went to the Kuet campus to cover news on violence, were later rescued by police.
The vice-chancellor issued a statement yesterday, saying that further stern action will be taken against the ten students.
According to probe committee, over 50 students were involved in the campus violence on May 4 to vitiate peaceful atmosphere of the university with a motive to defaming the vice chancellor, said a highly placed source of the university.
One of the teachers also played a vital role in destabilising the campus from behind the scene, the source said without mentioning the name of the teacher.
