Trial process of 34 Sylhet BDR men to start June 7

The trial process of a sedition case filed against 34 BDR men will begin in the District and Sessions Judge's Court, Sylhet, on June 7. Earlier on the day, the accused were produced in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate ATM Musa who fixed the date for starting trial process in the District and Sessions Judge's Court. Two other sedition cases filed against 108 BDR men in Sylhet were earlier sent to the District and Sessions Judge's Court. Judge Md Momin Ullah fixed June 9 and June 10 for framing charges against the accused. Officer- in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Syeduzzaman filed the three cases with the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on May 17, accusing the BDR men of staging mutiny at their respective stations in Sylhet following Pilkhana 'revolt'. Of them, 51 are from 21 Battalion, 57 from 38 Battalion and 34 from Sylhet Sector Headquarters. The mutineers took control of Sylhet Sector Headquarters and two battalion headquarters located in the city's Akhalia area on Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway. They also fired at least 200 blank shots, set fire to five vehicles kept in front of the battalion headquarters and put up barricades on the roads in front of the 21 Battalion headquarters.
