One expelled for assaulting female student at CU

Chittagong University (CU) authorities yesterday permanently expelled the student who assaulted a female student of political science department of the university on Saturday. “I expelled the student exercising my special authority and a notice in this regard will be issued soon,” the VC said. Earlier, hundreds of students of the university brought out a procession and staged a sit-in in front of the VC's office demanding expulsion of Shamsul Islam Raju, a third year management student, for assaulting the female student in front of Shamsunnahar Hall on the campus. Students of the three female dormitories brought out a procession at around 10:30am and later the students belonging to the Social Science Faculty joined the procession that paraded Commerce Faculty and Social Science Faculty. Some students manhandled Proctor Jasim Uddin and Assistant Proctor Chandan Kumar Poddar as they allegedly prevented the agitating students from entering the VC's office for submitting a memorandum. Later, the students staged a sit-in in front of the VC's office. At one stage, the VC came out of his room and announced expulsion of the student. On Sunday night, female students of RU filed a case against Shamsul Islam Raju with Hathazari Police Station under children and women Repression Prevention Act.
