AL man, cohorts sued for brutal torture on woman
Victim of physical torture on Wednesday last and consequent abortion two days later, a housewife is fighting for life at Jhenidah Sadar Hospital.
The victim is Mina Khatun of Dhaura village in Shailkupa upazila.
As her husband was sick, his younger brother Milon Mia on Sunday lodged a case with the Court of Jhenidah Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Masudur Rahman accusing 19 people of torturing the woman and looting the houses of several BNP activists.
The court has ordered the officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station to take necessary action.
According to the case, cohorts of Awami League leader Motiar Rahman of Kushobaria village vandalised and looted the houses of BNP activists on May 25. Consequently, a case was filed with Shailkupa Police Station.
Angered by filing of the case, Motiar and his men attacked the house of Milon Mia on May 27.
Not finding Milon and his father at home, the attackers hurled abuses uttering their names which Mina Khatun protested.
Upon order from Motiar Rahman, his companions Rinku, Shamim, Salam and Rashid dragged Mina onto the ground and started kicking her on the abdomen, goes the case statement.
The pregnant woman became unconscious and started bleeding.
Motiar's men also created obstacles to taking Mina to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex on the night.
On Friday, Mina was admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital where she aborted.
