Seven sued in Sunamganj on charge of war crime

A freedom fighter's son on Sunday filed a case with Sunamganj Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court against seven collaborators of the then Pakistan army for killing his father during the Liberation War. The accused are Malek Miah, 60, Suruj Miah, 62, Giasuddin, 64, Salek Miah, 52, Jahangir, 50, Abdul Haque, 65, and Haris Ullah, 75 -- all from Sholaghar village in Sunamganj Sadar. The complainant, Md Habibur Rahman of village Balikandi of Sunamganj Sadar upazila said the accused people picked up his father Babri Miah, a member of the then East Pakistan Rifles, who joined the first resistance at Sunamganj against the Pakistan army in 1971, took him to the nearby Pakistani army camp at Berigaon on 15th of the Bangla month of Ashar in 1378. The group tied Babri Mia with a shimul tree in front of the camp and shot him dead, Habibur said. Md Hasanul Islam, the additional chief judicial magistrate, ordered the officer-in-charge of Sunamganj Kotwali Police Station for enquiry and report into the allegations.
