About 2,000 people including women, children, students from different unions of Barguna district with the help of the local administration yesterday joined hands to repair on voluntary basis the damaged embankment in Kumarkhali housing project area under Sadar upazila. Dhirendo Debnath, AL lawmaker of Barguna and Swapan Kumar Sarker, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and upazila chairman Lt Col (retd) Abdul Khalek jointly inaugurated the repair work. The DC told The Daily Star that about 30,000 people of the areas would be benefited on completion of repair work of the damaged embankment. Besides, about 10,000 acres of land would be safe from river erosion.
