7 hurt as BCL factions clash
Two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Barisal Polytechnic Institute (BPI) unit yesterday clashed on the campus leaving eight injured.
The BCL factions -- one led by BPI unit BCL president Abdur Razzak and the other by secretary Mizanur Rahman were engaged in chase and counter chase wielding lethal weapons and creating panic on the campus and surrounding areas.
The injured are Reazaul Karim, Sohag, Miku of Razzak group and Anup, Mustafiz, Babu, Sabuj and Kamrul of Mizan group.
Witnesses said both factions brought outsiders during the clash.
At one stage of clash, Razzak group locked some supporters of rival Mizan group in a room of the institute.
Nurruzzaman Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Barisal Kotwali Police Station said he rushed to the spot with force and freed the hostages at about 1:00 pm.
Ziaur Rahman Zia, city BCL convener, said the activities of BCL has been declared as suspended till further announcement.
