Charges to be framed against 34 on June 17

A court here yesterday fixed June 17 to frame sedition charges against 34 BDR personnel under Sylhet Sector Headquarters. The BDR men, accused of staging mutiny at their respective battalions on February 26, were produced in the Court of District and Sessions Judge Md Momin Ullah who fixed the date. On May 31, Chief Judicial Magistrate ATM Musa sent the case records to the District and Sessions Judge's Court to start trial process of the sedition case. Two other sedition cases filed against 108 BDR men in Sylhet were earlier sent to the District and Sessions Judge's Court that fixed June 9 and June 10 for framing Charges against the accused. Officer-in- Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Syeduzzaman filed the three cases with the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on May 17 accusing the BDR men of staging mutiny at their respective stations following Pilkhana 'revolt'. Of them, 51 are from 21 Battalion, 57 from 38 Battalion and 34 from Sylhet sector headquarters. On February 26, the mutineers took control of Sylhet Sector Headquarters and two battalion headquarters in the city's Akhalia area on the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway. They also fired at least 200 blank shots, set fire to five vehicles in front of the battalion headquarters and put up barricades on the road in front of the 21 Battalion headquarters.
