Traders agitate as extortionists at Feni stab 10

A Correspondent, Feni
At least 10 people were stabbed as extortionists swooped on locals in the face of resistance at Station Road in Feni town yesterday. Protesting the incident, shop owners kept their shutters down and blocked the road for three hours disrupting traffic. Police later arrested one Abul Khair in connection with the incident. Police and local traders said some identified criminals of the area, led by Masud and Sumon, had been demanding illegal toll from shop owners for the last few days. As they refused, the gang attacked fish fry trader Abu Taher Miah at Station Road at around 9:30pm on Sunday and took away Tk 25,200 and a mobile phone set from him. When Taher tried to resist the criminals, they beat him up and stabbed. At that time, the employees of a nearby hotel and other people chased the criminals away. Yesterday morning, 10 to 12 criminals ransacked the hotel and looted cash. They also stabbed at least 10 people, including traders and hotel employees, as they tried to resist the gang. The extortionists, however, fled the scene as several hundred traders, employees and common people came out to resist them.
