Rape in Rangpur sparks protest
Socio-cultural organisations in Rangpur have demanded punishment of the criminals who raped a class eight student, also a dance artiste, at Alamnagar in Rangpur town.
Cultural activists expressed their deep concern as all the accused of the gang rape case are yet to be arrested.
Raja, 20, Apple, 21, Rasha, 20, Sumon, 22, and Mamun, 21, allegedly gang-raped the girl, a student of Aziznagar High School in Rangpur town, on Saturday night.
The criminals kidnapped her when she was going to buy goods from a nearby grocery immediately after evening, the victim alleged.
They took her behind the food depot at Alamnagar, raped her and left her unconscious. When she regained sense, she went to a nearby house, she said.
Informed, the victim's father Tapan Miah took her home and arranged her treatment. In the morning, he lodged a case with Kotwali Police Station.
Police arrested Raja, one of the alleged rapists, from Alamnagar on Saturday.
Rangpur units of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Mohila Parshad and Nari Odhikar Sangathon on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the superintendent of police demanding arrest of all the rapists.
Meanwhile the accused are threatening the parents of the victim with dire consequences if they did not withdraw the case against them, alleged Parveen Begum, mother of the rape victim, yesterday.
