Charge-framing dates for 91 mutineers fixed

In another sedition case, Sylhet District and Sessions Judge's Court yesterday deferred charge-framing against 51 BDR personnel of 21 Battalion to July 13. Judge Md Momin Ullah fixed the date as the public prosecutor prayed for time extension. The judge also fixed the same date for hearing the bail petition of the accused, court sources said. Meanwhile, Bandarban District and Sessions Judge's Court yesterday fixed June 16 for charge-framing against 40 BDR personnel in a sedition case. Our staff correspondent from Sylhet reported that the chief judicial magistrate had earlier sent the records of two sedition cases filed against 108 BDR men to the district and sessions judge to start trial process. Officer- in-charge (OC) of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Syeduzzaman filed three separate cases with the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on May 17 accusing 142 BDR men of Sylhet Sector Headquarters and two battalions of staging mutiny at their respective stations following Pilkhana 'revolt'. Of the mutineers, 51 are from 21 Battalion, 57 from 38 Battalion and 34 from Sector Headquarters in Sylhet. Our Bandarban correspondent adds: District and Sessions Judge Hrishi Kesh Saha fixed June 16 to frame charges against 40 BDR men in a sedition case filed against them. Police and Rab arrested the BDR personnel on May 14 on charge of staging a mutiny at zonal headquarters in Naikhongchari upazila on February 26. The judge also rejected the bail petitions of the accused submitted to the court through Advocate Quazi Mohatul Hossain.
