Sunday's Clash
Boroitali in Khagrachhari still tense
A meeting organised by Sindukchhari Zone Army on Hafchhari Union Parishad premises in Guimara upazila of Khagrachhari district, apparently to remove disputes between locals and settlers, yesterday saw no indigenous people from Boroitali village, where Sunday's clash left 17 settlers injured.
Amid tension between rival villagers in areas of Guimara upazila, most of the shops and business centres remained closed there yesterday, sources said.
Meanwhile, the four missing persons -- Hafiz Bhandari, 55, Habibur Rahman, 55, Rabiul Islam, 36, and Solaiman Alam, 32, returned to their village.
They were hiding in the jungle during the clash, they said.
In yesterday's meeting, Khagrachhari Hill District Council (KHDC) Chairman Ruhity Karbary urged peaceful co-existence between settlers and indigenous people.
Superintendent of Police Md Ameer Zafar suggested people to consult with the army men before 'taking any step'.
Among others, KHDC Chief Executive Officer Tarun Kanti Gosh, KHDC member Abu Bakar Siddik, Major Kamrul Islam, Major Imtiaz Ahmed, and Matiranga Upazila Chairman Shamsul Islam spoke.
