Students of BM College yesterday blocked road and assaulted a police officer as the law enforcers made delay to reach the spot to nab outsiders who stabbed a student for protesting teasing of girls on the campus yesterday noon. Tanvir Hossain, a third year honours student of economics department, protested indecent remarks at the girls by a group of outsiders on the campus. At this, one of the outsiders stabbed him, police said. Tanvir was rushed to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. College students chased the outsiders, caught one of them while others fled away. The college authorities immediately informed police but they took much time to reach the spot, sources said. Aggrieved students brought out a procession on the campus and blocked the road in front of the college for half an hour. In the meantime, the detained outsider's associates snatched him away. When police came to the spot after about an hour, students became agitated and assaulted Shishir Kumar Paul, a sub inspector of Barisal Kotwali Police Station. Traffic resumed on the road at about 12:30 noon. Principal of the college, Dr Nani Gopal Das said as police was well-informed about the incident, it is their responsibility to take action against the outsiders. Hayatul Islam Khan, assistant police commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said police was deployed around the campus area and they are trying their best to arrest the outsider attackers.
