The students of Barisal BM College yesterday formed a human chain in front of the campus demanding immediate steps to resolve accommodation problems of residential students. Living in the two hostel buildings have become risky as rainwater seeps through the roofs and walls, said students who joined the programmed organised by the committee for construction of multi-storied hostel building at 11:00am. The beds get wet during the rains as the tin-roof of a few rooms has developed many holes, they said. “There is only one bathroom, one toilet and one basin for 45 students. Besides, the toilet is in front of the room and without any roof. It is very unhygienic,” said Palash, a student of honours final year, and a resident at Jibonanando Das Hostel of BM College. “Sometimes we miss classes as much time is wasted waiting in long queue in front of the toilet. We again start taking serials after the classes are over,” said Milon Basu, another resident of the hostel. The students urged the authorities concerned to take immediate measures for renovation of the hostel buildings and construction of new ones. Hostel Superintendent Tapas Kanti Samaddar said, "We have informed the authorities concerned about the situation but to no effect. Major accidents may occur at any moment if the buildings are not renovated or repaired on an urgent basis."
