Bomb Attack on Suranjit's Rally

Accused still at large

Five years into the bomb blast at the public rally of Awami Leader (AL) presidium member Suranjit Sengupta at Derai under Sunamganj district, one of the charge-sheeted accused is still at large. The bomb attack on the rally on June 21, 2004 left one boatman named Abdul Wahid killed and 40 others injured. The incident took place just after Suranjit got down from podium, finishing his speech. He escaped unhurt. After change of investigation officers thrice, the charge sheet in the case was submitted to the court on December 14, 2008. The accused are Hafiz Syed Nayeem Ahmed, Md Sharif, Mufti Main Uddin, Delwar Hossain Ripon, Mofizul Islam, Huji chief Mufti Abdul Hannan and Naziur Rahman Nazu. Of them, Nazu, son of Abdul mannan of Sikandarpur in Derai upazila, has been absconding since the filing of the case .
