BCL leader held for robbery

Police arrested a BCL leader on Monday on charge of bus robbery at Jamtalimore under Sadar upazila. The arrestee is Monzurul Islam Laizu, vice-president of BCL Dinajpur district unit. Police quoting witnesses said Laizu along with his three accomplices stopped a Thakurgaon-bound bus on Dinajpur--Rangpur highway at around 11:00am and robbed Tk 4.5 lakh from Mozammel Haque, a businessman. Hearing screams, locals chased the gang and caught Laizu while his accomplices managed to flee. When they started beating Laizu, he introduced himself as brother of a police officer. Hearing this, locals became furious and swooped on policemen who went to the spot. The law enforcers finally rescued Laizu from public wrath and took him to the Sadar Police Station.
